Toure set for City switch

Tuesday, July 28, 2009

Arsenal defender Kolo Toure looks set to switch red for blue as Manchester City close in on a £16 million pound deal. Toure, who is currently the longest serving player in the Arsenal squad, joined the Gunners in 2002 for £150,000 thousand pounds.

With Toure set to be City's 5Th signing of the season, their challenge for not only the top four but maybe even the Championship is looking more impressive with every signing. However, Toure will be City's first defensive signing of the summer. In my opinion, Toure would be an excellent signing for City, his athleticism and strength would greatly strengthen a fairly weak City defense.

With Toure's departure immanent Arsene Wenger will surely look for a replacement. Obvious candidate Brede Hangleland is target after being linked earlier in the season, but also linked with the Gunners is Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini. In my opinion, Hangleland would be a perfect replacement. He would add height and strength to the Arsenal back-line and would probably cost less than City are paying for Toure, although there is no denying Toure will be a loss to Arsenal.
