Are City title contenders?

Sunday, August 30, 2009

So far this season Manchester City have won every game, and not conceded a single goal. They are widely expected to challenge strongly for the 'top four' this season, but their impressive start might signal their intent to go a step further.

Everyone knows that City have an excellent team, but at the start of the season no one was talking about the them being serious title contender. Three games in, nine points and no goals conceded might be the start of a terrific season for the Sky Blues. Iv watched City play a couple of times this season, and iv been very impressed. Adebayor looks a different player than he did at Arsenal last season. He looks like he wants it more, and i thought he was sluggish at time for Arsenal. Gareth Barry has been a huge success. He has been the anchor in midfield and gives the more attacking players a lot of freedom. Although Teves hasn't scored yet, its only a matter of time. He look lively and is fighting for everything.

At the back City look equally impressive. Toure has made a huge impact at the heart of the defence, and with Lescott beside him they look very sturdy at the back. Even if Toure and Lescott have a bad day, they have arguably the best keeper in the league in Shay Given. With Richards at right back and Bridge at left back, I can't see City conceding much goals this season.

Maybe its too early to make judgement on who's going to win the League, but I have a strong feeling City will be there or thereabouts come next May.
