Arsenal's injurys not an excuse

Thursday, August 13, 2009

It seems like every time you hear news on Arsenal, its about a new injury, and it looks like its set to continue this season. Arsenal have a tough first game, away to Everton and already they are missing Samir Nasri, Tomas Rosicky ( no surprise there ), Johan Djourou, Abou Diaby, Lukasz Fabianski and Theo Walcott.

To be honest, I feel sorry for Arsene Wenger. Lets not forget Eduardo's horrific leg break in Feburary 2008, Rosicky only just returned after 18 months out and is injured again, Robin Van Persie had constant injury problems in the past, Fabregas was missing for four months last season, Theo Walcott was missing for 3 months with a dislocated shoulder ( and injury which kept Manchester United winger Nani out for two days ), not to mention Samir Nasri is suffering from a broken leg, although not a serious one.

You have to think, are all these injuries the reason why Arsenal are trophy less four seasons in a row. Of course the injuries will have played some part, but in my opinion, Wenger is the problem. Wenger's policy of maturing young players into stars is good for the future, but I'm pretty sure Arsenal fans are sick of the lack of signings from the French tactician. This season he has only signed centre back Thomas Vermaelen, who is not tested at this sort of level. I'm not saying Wenger is a bad manager, I think hes one of the best but his lack of transfers is affecting Arsenal's chance of winning anything this year.

Keen to hear what you have to say on the matter.
