Sunderland swoop for Catermole

Wednesday, August 12, 2009

Sunderland have today completed the signing of highly rated Wigan midfielder Lee Cattermole. Cattermole has been linked with many clubs this summer, including the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool which prompts the question why did he join Sunderland?

Well, in my opinion its a good move for the youngster, and a move to a top four club will not be far away. I watched Cattermole regulary last season and he a player of some potential. At Sunderland he will be given a fair go at regular first team action, which would not be guaranteed at Liverpool or Arsenal.

In my opinion, Sunderland have got a bargain as Cattermole will only cost £6 million ( which could rise to £8 million ). Considering the potential he has and the fact that he was captain of Wigan at age 20, and is capped at England U21 Wigan fans may feel they could have held out for a bigger offer.
