What are Arsenal without Cesc

Sunday, August 23, 2009

Arsenal fans and staff are sweating on the fitness of captain Cesc Fabregas who was pulled off at half time against Portsmouth yesterday with a hamstring complaint. The Gunners captain could be out for up to three weeks if the hamstring is pulled, but he could be back by Wednesday is the problem isn't serious.

However, if the injury were to keep him out for three weeks, you would have to say Arsenal would be in trouble. Fabregas has been instrumental in Arsenal's excellent start to the season and if he were to be sidelined he would miss key games against Celtic, Manchester United and Manchester City. These are all tough and important games and Arsenal cannot afford to be missing their influential midfielder.

In nearly every Arsenal match you watch, Fabregas pulls the strings. He was immense against Everton on opening day, pulled the strings against Celtic and half of the Portsmouth game ( until he was subbed with the injury ). For me, I can't see anyone who can replace him in the centre of the Arsenal midfield. Denilson and Song are both defensive players, and with Nasri and Rosicky injured I cant see anyone to fill the void left if he is injured. Some people will look at Abou Diaby after his brace and great display against Portsmouth, but to be honest he doesn't really have the Fabregas affect does he?

In my opinion, Fabregas will need to stay injury free this season if Arsenal are going to challenge for anything this season.
