Are Arsenal out of the race already?

Saturday, September 12, 2009

Arsenal slumped to a second defeat in a row at the hands of Manchester City today, and already their tittle credentials are coming into question. The Gunners went down 4-2 at the City of Manchester Stadium, as City conquered their biggest test of the season so far and has sent a massive warning message to the 'top four'.

Arsenal were written off quiet before the season even started after a very quiet summer where they only added Thomas Vermaelen after losing key players in Toure and Adebayor. However, after an impressive start with convincing wins against Everton and Portsmouth they looked to be in with a chance. But now, two defeats later and 6 points behind Manchester City and United and 9 points behind Chelsea, Arsenal already seem to be slipping off the pace.

To be fair to the Gunners, the defeats to City and United were both very difficult games, so maybe Arsene Wenger will be happy to have the games out of the way. Arsenal still have players to come back into the squad e.g Nasri and Walcott but 6 points is tough to make up when it doesn't look like the teams ahead will be dropping points soon. I'm not going to write off Arsenal just yet, but another defeat in the next few games would be disastrous.
