Defoe - Can he last the pace?

Monday, September 7, 2009

So far this season, Spurs striker Jermaine Defoe has been in fantastic form for both club and country, bagging four goals in as many games for in the Premier League, as well as scoring five in his last three games for the England international team.

In his career Defoe has always been a promising striker, but has never really pushed for a regular starting place in the international team and was among the good but not great strikers of the Premier League. However, Defoe's excellent start to this season may have signalled more things to come from the 26 year old. I've always been a fan of the little man, but I fear that Defoe's excellent start to the season may fade, much like the season Gabriel Agbonlahor ( Aston Villa ) had last season. As you may remember, Agbonlahor had an excellent start last season, but eventually faded and struggled to find the back of the net after February, scoring only once in twelve games.

Spurs fans will pray that Defoe can keep his form, and after watching him recently, only an injury looks likely to dent his great start. If Defoe can keep his form past Christmas, who knows, a January transfer could be on the cards.
