Arsenal pretty much ut of the tittle race

Monday, February 1, 2010

Maybe a bit early to say this, but I firmly believe the Premiership is now a two horse race. Manchester United put in a fantastic display yesterday to beat Arsenal 1-3, at The Emirates, and it really showed there is a gulf in class between Arsenal and the top two.

I could be being harsh. There is no doubt Arsenal are a very good team but they are lacking in some areas. For example, a new goalkeeper is badly needed. Almunia just isn't up to scratch. Even though looking at the defence, it look fairly solid but it definitely needs some work. A commanding centre back is needed. Gallas is good on the ground but in the air not so much.

Midfield is the only place where Arsenal are good to go. Song, Nasri, Walcott, Rosicky and not to mention the golden boy Fabregas are all very good players. It's up front that's the problem. Without Van Persie, they never seem to pose much of a threat. Eduardo hasn't been the same since his injury, and Bendtner has yet to prove himself. Playing Arshavin up front isn't the solution, for me he was far more effective on the left wing.

So basically, Arsenal have to win against Chelsea next weekend to have any chance of being back in the running for the Premier League. This won't be easy though, Chelsea already beat them 0-3 at The Emirates earlier this season and are rarely beaten at home. Is Arsenal's Premier League dream this season over? In my opinion yes, but only time will tell.
