Arsenal really miss Fabregas

Thursday, April 15, 2010

Arsenal's title hopes went out the window last night after a 2-1 defeat away to Tottenham, which saw the Gunners lose their chance to close the gap on Chelsea and overtake Manchester United.

I watched the game tonight, and Arsenal desperately missed Fabregas. He is without a doubt the key to Arsenal's success, even though there has been a lack of it lately. He pulls the strings in midfield and was Arsenal's top scorer this year. When I seen Fabregas get injured, I never thought he had broken his leg, but to be honest when I heard he had I immediately thought Arsenal's season was over.

I'm not making excuses for Arsenal, but they have been desperately unlucky with injuries this year. No Arsenal player who would be considered starting 11 has gone this season uninjured. Tonight they were without a large number of key players e.g Fabregas, Gallas, Arshavin, Song and Vermaelen was taken off with injury. Its just very bad luck.

On the bright side, Robin Van Persie made his return from injury, and its fair to say, he was absolutely fantastic. You would never have guessed he spent 5 months on the sidelines. His first touch of the ball was incredible, and he made a massive difference to an otherwise poor Arsenal performance. Who knows what could have happened had he stayed fit.
