Klaas waits on Spurs to join Hunt

Friday, July 17, 2009

Out of favour Real Madrid striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar has today issued a plea to Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp to join the race for his signature sooner rather than later. According to the Mirror, the Dutch ace is delaying a pending offer from German giants VFB Stuttgart in the hope that he will be playing at White Hart Lane come August 16th when Tottenham clash with last year's Premiership runner up, Liverpool.

Huntelaar who hit the net an impressive 8 times in 11 games while playing in Spain last season has accepted the fact that his name will fall down the pecking order in Madrid after the arrival of French maestro Karim Benzema. While Benzema could cost Real as much as €41 million when incentives come into play, president Florentino Perez will be happy to recoup €20 million of this money with the imminent sale of Huntelaar.

Despite only signing a deal with Real in January, Huntelaar is set to leave after a backroom shuffle which includes Florentino Perez starting his second term as president and the arrival of Manuel Pellegrini as successor to former boss Juande Ramos.

The only concrete offer Real have received is believed to be a fee in the region of €20 million from German side Stuttgart however Huntelaar is not keen on a move to Germany and would much rather to be playing on English soil this season.
