Samir breaks a leg

Tuesday, July 21, 2009

Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri has unfortunately suffered a broken leg while in pre-season training with the Gunners in Waltersdorf in Austria. The France international sustained a fracture to his right fibula. This means that the France international will miss the opening weeks of the Premier League, but hopes to return sometime in October. The clubs website stated that the midfielder will be out for two to three months.

The news is likely to upset the Arsenal fans and staff as Nasri had an excellent first season in the Premier League, scoring 6 goals in 28 starts. But the question now is, will Wenger panic buy to replace Nasri, or does he believe their is cover for the French star. Wenger usually deployed Nasri on the left wing, but since the arrival of Arshavin he was given a more central role. For me, I think have cover for Nasri, but they will still need to strengthen the midfield, particularly the central midfield. Its fairly obvious Arsenal need a big presence in midfield, and with Yaya Toure and Felipe Melo seemingly not going to Arsenal this summer, Wenger will have to turn his attention elsewhere.
