Liverpool lose...again

Monday, August 24, 2009

Liverpool have lost for the second time this season already, and with only three points from a possible nine, are Liverpool already digging themselves a hole. Their first defeat came at the hands of Tottenham on opening day and tonight defeat against Aston Villa ( at home ) is a big blow so early in the season.

On the bright side for Pool fans, Aston Villa and Spurs are two tough fixtures, but if Liverpool are to challenge for the tittle they will have to get back on track soon. I watched the match tonight, and it was a poor performance overall. Nothing like the fluent Liverpool of last year.

Aston Villa took in a 0-2 lead at half time, through goals from a Lucas og and Curtis Davies. Fernando Torres gave Liverpool a glimmer of hope but it was soon gone when Ashley Young dispatched a penalty just three minutes after Torres scored.

After the first few games of the Premier League, I think it could be the closest one yet. There are so many team who will be challenging for the Champions League spots, and in particular I think City and Spurs have a great chance of grabbing a Champions League spot, but then again, were only three games in. Probably too early to tell.
