Rafa ready to splash Alonso cash

Saturday, August 1, 2009

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez claims he would be ready to splash out on Spanish striker David Villa with the money received from the Alonso transfer. Although Alonso is still a Liverpool player at the moment, he is widely expected to sign for Madrid before the transfer window closes.

It is believed Real will pay the £30 million demanded by Liverpool, and Benitez is ready to lure Villa in with the intention he will link up with Torres as well as the Spanish pair did at Euro 2008. Villa has already rejected a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona already this summer, but Liverpool feel that playing beside international compatriot Torres could lure Villa to Anfield.

However, their is no guarantee of Villa joining Liverpool. After all, he did turn down the Champions of Europe and big-spending Madrid so the chances of him wanting to join Liverpool, in my opinion, would be slim to none. But there is another option for the Reds, with Alberto Aquilani already signalling his intent to join Liverpool by reportedly handing in a transfer request. To be honest, for me its keep Alonso or don't mount a serious challenge for the tittle. For me Alonso is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and it would be a massive blow to lose him.
