Will Arsenal finally win the Carling Cup

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Over the past few years, Arsene Wenger has always fielded a very youthful but exciting squad in the Carling Cup, and while they always impressed they never really gave the impression they would go the whole way and lift the trophy. They did reach the final a few years ago, only to lose to Chelsea.

To be honest, I don't think they will win this year either. I watched them play against Liverpool tonight, both team fielded inexperienced sides but nevertheless Arsenal did impress. However, if they were to draw for example ,Chelsea, I believe the 'men against boys' factor would come in the play. Chelsea will field a strong team and Arsene Wenger will stick to his young guns to give them first team experience but the Chelsea team will simply be to strong.

I was impressed with some of the Arsenal youngsters tonight though. Merida and Ramsey both impressed, while Gibbs looks like he has grown up since last year. Great potential yes, but proven on the big stage, no. So to answer the question, can Arsenal finally win the Carling Cup, in my opinion, No.
