Will the other big teams be scared of Arsenal, Vermaelen thinks so

Monday, October 5, 2009

Arsenal centre back Thomas Vermaelen believes Arsenal's 6-2 at home to Blackburn on Sunday will send out a big message to the other big teams in the English Premier League. Vermaelen arrived at the Emirates during the summer for £11 Million, and has so far, proved a massive success.

Arsenal currently lie in 4th position, but could be 5th if Manchester City win tonight. They also have the best goal difference in the league, and new signing Vermaelen has got 5 of those. He believes the other top teams will be scared of Arsenal's scoring ability. But he does realise Arsenal are weak in defense and will need to tighten up if they are to challenge for the title.

"In the end it was a great result, but if you analyse the match, in the first half we were not so good''.

There is no doubt Arsenal have great attacking options, especially with Walcott back in the frame. But you have to agree that until they tighten up in defence they are going nowhere. With all players looking to attack they leave themselves vulnerable to counter attacks. Great team to watch going forward though.
