Torres could spend up to two months on the sideline

Tuesday, November 3, 2009
Liverpool fans will be shocked to hear that leading goalscorer Fernando Torres could be out for up to two month if his troublesome groin problem requires surgery, according to The Sun. Although the injury isn't as serious now, if Benitez decides to play Torres against Lyon tomorrow night it could prove a disastrous decision.

Torres battled threw most of the game against Fulham at the weekend, a game which Liverpool lost 3-1. They now face a must win game against Lyon tomorrow night, defeat could see their chances of qualifying gone.

''But we have to take Fernando to Lyon because we do not have too many options''

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard could also have to go under the knife for a groin injury. With Torres and Gerrard missing for such a long period, it would be disastrous for Liverpool, especially considering their recent form. While I understand the pressure Rafa Benitez is under I don't think he should play Torres tomorrow night. We all know how good Torres is but to put his fitness at risk would be outrageous, even if their Champions League hopes lie in the balance.

Do you think Benitez is making the right decision? How long will he last? Have your say in the poll on the right.
