Were City right to sack Hughes?

Monday, December 21, 2009

Its been one of the most talked about stories of the season so far, making the front page in many Newspapers. Mark Hughes was, as you all know by now, sacked by Manchester City after their 4-3 against Blackburn on Sunday and was replaced by Roberto Mancini.

Personally, I didn't see it coming, not yet anyway. Manchester City are basically a new team and before the season even started I couldn't see them hitting top form until after Christmas. However, it is true that the amount of money spent was bound to lead to high expectations from the City board and fans.

In my opinion I don't think Hughes should have been sacked. He didn't make very much high profile mistakes, the signing of Emmanuel Adebayor for £25 million was a real waste but he was once a top striker. He also showed his loyalty by paying £250,000 out of his own pocket for Craig Bellamy, whom proved to be a huge success. In my opinion, the first thing the new coach has to do is ship out Adebayor, and unless his mood changes, Robinho. If your team is to have success, bad characters in the dressing room will hinder any chance of it.
